Tattoos Permanent?
When a tattoo is applied, large ink particles are strategically inserted into the skin’s dermis, the deepest layer of skin. The foreign ink material and needle puncture wound immediately alert your immune system to send blood cells to clean up the foreign ink pigment and remove the unwelcome ink particles.
However, the large size of the ink particles in relation to the blood cells, combined with the deep placement of the ink particles in the dermis makes removing the ink very difficult. Instead, your immune system continuously chips away small fragments of ink over time which is why tattoos gradually fade and lose color over a lifetime.
Tattoo Removal Works
Laser tattoo removal essentially speeds up the natural fading process by breaking up the large ink particles into smaller fragments so your immune system can flush them out more easily. Remember, your immune system is doing all the heavy lifting by removing the ink from your skin. Laser tattoo removal just acts as an assistant to shatter the ink particles.
During a laser treatment, our Astanza Trinity laser emits ultra-fast pulses of light energy onto the unwanted tattoo. The ink particles absorb the wavelengths of light energy, heat up, and shatter into tiny fragments. Over the weeks following a treatment, your immune system sends blood cells to absorb the broken particles and dispose of them through your bloodstream.
To completely remove a tattoo or even significantly fade a tattoo, multiple treatments are needed. During your free consultation, our experts will assess your tattoo using a variety of factors to determine how many treatments you will need to reach your desired skin goal. The number of laser tattoo removal treatments needed is unique for every person and tattoo and depends on a variety of factors. However, most people require a minimum of 5 to 10 treatments for complete removal and less for fading/lightening treatments. Treatments are spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart to give your skin time to heal before your next laser session.
